Signet Rings FAQs
What does a signet ring mean?
Signet rings historically carried a seal, family crest or other identifying mark. Today they are also worn as everyday jewellery, so the meaning can be inherited, symbolic or personal to the design.
Which finger should a man wear a signet ring on?
The pinky is traditional, but there are no rules. Serge DeNimes also styles signets on the ring and index fingers, so choose the finger that fits comfortably and suits your style.
Can anyone wear a signet ring?
Yes. You do not need a family crest or inherited ring. Modern signets can be plain, gemstone-set or built around symbols and motifs.
Which signet ring shape should I choose?
A soft square or plain face keeps the shape clean, while oval, round and rectangular faces give stones or motifs more prominence. Serge DeNimes uses all of these forms across the collection.
What's the difference between a silver and gold signet ring?
Silver signet rings use 925 sterling silver. Gold styles use a 14ct gold-plated finish over a sterling silver base, so check the product page for the exact finish.
How should a signet ring fit?
Measure the finger you plan to wear it on. Serge DeNimes recommends measuring at the end of the day and choosing the larger size if you are between sizes; use the Size Guide before ordering.
Do silver signet rings tarnish?
Sterling silver naturally oxidises over time. Some styles, including the classic Silver Signet Ring, use rhodium plating to slow oxidation; follow the Care Guide for your ring's finish.
Are Serge DeNimes signet rings hallmarked?
Serge DeNimes uses Great British Assay Offices for hallmarking in line with UK precious metal rules. Silver pieces below the legal 7.78g threshold do not require a hallmark.
Can I return a signet ring if the size is wrong?
Full-price rings can be returned within 30 days if they are in their pouch and in perfect condition. Sale items have a 14-day return window and are refunded as store credit.
